does dhcp-4.2.1_p1 work ?
Yes net-misc/dhcp-4.2.1_p1 installs fine.
Linux 3.x kernel? It's a broken configure script: --- configure.orig 2005-03-17 21:14:55.000000000 +0100 +++ configure 2011-08-27 02:31:52.543383492 +0200 @@ -104,6 +104,9 @@ 2) sysname=linux-2.2 ;; *) sysname=linux-2.2 ;; esac;; + 3) case $minor in + 0) sysname=linux-2.2 ;; + esac;; esac;; SunOS) release=`uname -r` ----

fixed in dhcp-4.2.2+
4.2.2 is masked - any user doing a new install would run in to problems. Also - if i remember correctly it doesn't work with chrooting.
both of which are being addressed elsewhere. please refrain from unrelated bugs.
As long as they aren't fixed - that version is not a viable solution thus there is no harm in applying this patch to the 3.x series.
this bug is about linux-3.x support, and that is fixed in dhcp-4.x. anything else is irrelevant. please stay on topic. i'm not supporting dhcp-3.x, so i'll leave it up to Robin to see what he wants to do with it.
Users should move to stable DHCP4 I think, but this patch isn't exactly hazardous. Spanky: do you know of any other reasons where DHCP3 would fail w/ linux 3.x?
no idea. ive never looked at dhcp3. but i imagine it wouldnt make the situation any worse than it already is :).
dhcp-4.x is stable now
