Description Seth 2004-01-11 06:51:03 UTC
something like WGET's d/l bar. a simple, abstract, general 'this is how much more you have to go' bar would be very nice to have for those very long builds like KDE and OOFFICE. i'm thinking that a function would simply count the number of steps in an ebuild and output 'x out of y done' or something along these lines. feasible?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. 'emerge kde'
2. wait 10-18 hours, post on 'forums.gentoo.org' 1908923 times asking how long the build should take.
3. repeat with 'emerge openoffice'

Actual Results:
alot of waiting with an unknown endpoint.

Expected Results:
a general idea of how long a build will take.

ermm, how do you propose we "estimate" how long a build process is going to take? What you are suggesting is already there. "Unpacking finished..." "Starting compile" "finished compile, starting merge" etc, I'm not sure what you mean.
