Seems like sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.39-r3 has been stabilized but now vmware-modules is no longer buildable. It aborts with the following error:

 * Checking for suitable kernel configuration options...
 *   CONFIG_BKL:         is not set when it should be.

CONFIG_BKL has been removed with 2.6.39. Either vmware-modules should explicitly depend on older kernels or needs to be patched to work without BKL...
