Description Xake 2011-07-27 10:36:46 UTC
I have a overlay hosted @ github referenced in URL, that I personally use but for some different reasons do not want added to the overlays list.

Now previously "layman -o $URL -a" has worked for the lik mentioned, but at least since I upgraded to layman-2.0.0_rc* I have gotten troubles:

# layman -f -o $URL
* Fetching remote list,...
Failed to fetch overlay list!
 Original Error was: 'last-modified'
* Download failed.
* Error was: Failed to fetch overlay list!
*  Original Error was: 'last-modified'

When I take a closer look at the HTTP-header for this file it comes apparent that raw.github.org does not even announce "last-modified". So I think that may be what fails?

The official repo-list fetches fine, however the getoo server announces last-modified in its server response.

Yes, I recently added that check to reduce bandwidth usage since it fetched the list for nearly every operation.

I'll work on a solution. Thanks for the link for me to test it with.

fixed in commit b08a5e4b34e0258e84714bcef16c1d5d09c71b39.

so is available now in layman-9999 and will be in rc2.

I was also thinking, that a modified -o option could install the overlay definition instead to /etc/layman.overlays/overlay-name.xml. That could take advantage of the new overlay definitions plug-in directory that can be used for non-list static lists and definitions. If the list is not static then putting an entry in layman.cfg is best so it can be updated regularly.

Fixed and released in >=layman-2.0.0_rc2.
