net-misc/asterisk 1.8.5.0-r2 has proven to be sufficiently stable for production use, significantly more so that the current 1.6 versions available in portage. Specifically the last stablish version of 1.6 was 1.6.2.17.3, since 1.6.2.18 asterisk has been plagued by various memory corruption bugs to the point where a simple "reload" command will more than likely crash it. I would like to vote for an immediate stabilization of >=1.8.5.0-r2 (prior 1.8 versions are vulnerable to numerous crashes too) and removal of earlier versions from the tree. Reproducible: Always
We should sort out the chanvar stuff before stabilizing.
As per kdcoetzee & jkroon; we are postponing this. I have two patches that I would like to apply to 1.8.5.0-r3; namely chanvar & (ASTERISK-18082) Deadlock of SIP or segfault when doing REFERs. Let's file a new bug once 1.8.5.0-r3 has proven itself.
