gentoo-sources-2.6.39 or vanilla with manually applied fbcondecor patch will hang during booting if there's an initrd present that contains the bootsplash theme. The last thing printed during boot is "Switching to clocksource tsc" and it hangs there. Reboot by SysRq doesn't work at that point. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install gentoo-sources-2.6.39, make sure "framebuffer console decorations" is enabled, and build it. 2. Generate an initrd using the splash_geninitramfs tool. I used: "splash_geninitramfs --verbose --res 1920x1080 --generate /boot/initrd.splash1920x1080 livecd-2007.0" 3. Edit your grub.conf to contain an initrd line for the 2.6.39 kernel. I have two computers (netbook and desktop) that use a fbcondecor + initrd configuration. They both hang when booting a 2.6.39-gentoo version kernel. They have previously never had a problem booting the kernel. Attempts to change the clocksource by using "clocksource=hpet" or "clocksource=acpi_pm" failed to resolve the problem.
