Description BillWho 2011-05-31 17:42:52 UTC
LXDE installation using profile default/linux/amd64/10.0/desktop.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Choose Preferences/Openbox Configuration Manager or obconf& at cl
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Dialog box appears immediately stating: Failed to load an rc.xml. You have probably failed to install Openbox properly. The only option is to choose OK and close the dialog box - open box configuration is not accessible.

Expected Results:
Normal launch of Openbox Configuration Manager (obconf)

The application is attempting to access the file lxde-rc.xml in the directory "/home/bill/.config/openbox/home/bill/.config/openbox/" which by default doesn't exist.

As a temporary resolution I created the directory /home/bill/.config/openbox/home/bill/.config/openbox and symlinked back to /home/bill/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml which appears to work,
Comment 1 BillWho 2011-05-31 17:46:11 UTC
Output from strace:

obtrace:stat("/home/bill/.config/openbox/home/bill/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml", 0x7fffc32bd610) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

obtrace:stat("/etc/xdg/openbox/home/bill/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml", 0x7fffc32bd610) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

Thanks for reporting this glitch in obconf. Would you mind posting your 'emerge --info' output in case it is helpful for reproducing this bug?
Comment 3 BillWho 2011-06-07 02:02:22 UTC

Comment 4 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-06-08 17:07:26 UTC
I can't reproduce it. Which version of openbox is this?
Comment 5 BillWho 2011-06-08 19:23:28 UTC
(gentoo) gateway / # openbox --version
Openbox 3.5.0-rc1
Copyright (c) 2008 Mikael Magnusson
Copyright (c) 2003-2006 Dana Jansens

This is the openbox version that was included with the installation of LXDE. In addition, this bug also occurred on a Dell desktop about three months ago. Both were new installations by way of chrooting from a sabayon.

(gentoo) gateway / # cat $(which openbox-lxde)
#!/bin/sh
exec openbox --config-file $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/openbox/lxde-rc.xml $@

(gentoo) gateway bill # cat .xinitrc
exec startlxde

If there's anything else I can do to assist with this, please don't hesitate to ask.

As I noted, the issue is not critical and an easy workaround is available...
Comment 6 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-06-08 19:31:56 UTC
I will try to get in touch with upstream developers and see what they think
Comment 7 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-06-16 12:13:41 UTC
Which version of obconf is this? I do not understand why is it looking for lxde-rc.xml? Are you using the obconf from portage tree?
Comment 8 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-06-16 12:15:51 UTC
In any case, this looks like an upstream issue with obconf. Can you please report it upstream?

https://bugzilla.icculus.org/

Please let us know when if/when you file the upstream bug

Thank you

I have file bug # 5046 @ icculus.org as requested...
Comment 10 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-06-17 09:37:26 UTC
This is reproducible on another LXDE installation. I am not yet sure if this is an obconf glitch ( appending the same path twice ) or there is something wrong with lxde initialization.
Comment 11 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-06-17 16:23:07 UTC
Hi, after a lot of consideration this seems to be an lxde bug. Will you please close the upstream bug? I will release a new obconf today that workarounds this problem

Actually no. I will comment on the upstream bug. Please ignore my previous request
Comment 13 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-06-17 17:37:59 UTC
I added a workaround to the latest obconf. Please enable the 'lxde' use flag and emerge it again. Report back if you still have problems

I added lxde use flag and re-emerged obconf. Unfortunately, it's
still looking to "/home/bill/.config/openbox/home/bill/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml"

This is from strace:
bill@gateway ~ $ grep lxde\-rc\.xml obtrace
open("/home/bill/.config/openbox/home/bill/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml", O_RDONLY) = 6

gateway bill # openbox --version

Yes, obconf is still broken. But the menu entry is using obconf-lxde not obconf. Try using the menu item, or if you are using obconf from terminal launch obconf-lxde instead. If you insist using obconf, then use 'obconf --config-file lxde-rc.xml'

Sorry Markos, my bad there :( I checked the obconf.desktop file in /usr/share/applications and that does indeed have the entry Exec=obconf-lxde.

I removed the symlink I had pointing back to /home/bill/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml and launched Openbox Configuration Manager from the menu and obconf-lxde from the cl and both methods are now working correctly.

Thank you Markos for your assistance in resolving this bug. I will change the status to resolved/fixed.
