Please look at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=49911#49911 This fix solved the "joystick" problem using wxGTK 2.2.9 ebuild and gcc 3.1 I have not tried 2.3.2. Maybe this is helpful.

2.2.9-r1 is currently testing and should be available on rsync servers in a couple of hours.
both 2.3.2-r2 and 2.2.9-r1 are available in portage. Thanks for the patches!
