Pilot-link version 0.11.8 doesn't communicate with Palm. On the same dual-boot machine, it works just fine under Solaris (pilot-link 0.11.8), so it should not be the hardware problem. alexhome root # emerge info Portage 2.0.49-r18 (default-sparc64-1.4, gcc-3.3.2, glibc-2.3.3_pre20031212-r0, 2.4.23-sparc-r1) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.23-sparc-r1 sparc64 sun4u Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.12 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="sparc ~sparc" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-mcpu=ultrasparc -O3 -pipe" CHOST="sparc-unknown-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-mcpu=ultrasparc -O3 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="sparc X amd arts autofs avantgo berkdb bonobo cdr clamav crypt cups dvd encode esd evo fax fbcon fbdev ffmpeg fftw flac foomaticdb freetype fs gd gdbm gif gnome gphoto2 gpm gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile imap imlib informix java javascript jpeg kde libgda libwww mad mikmod motif mozcalendar mozilla mpeg msn mysql ncurses nls odbc oggvorbis opengl oss pam pda pdflib perl png ppds python qt quicktime readline rplay samba scanner sdk sdl slang spell ssl tcltk tcpd tiff truetype type1 usb wmf xine xinerama xml2 xmms xv zlib" alexhome root #
Are you using a serial or USB port?
I'm using /dev/ttyS0
OK, by default, Gentoo's inittab has an entry to spawn an agetty listener on /dev/ttyS0 for sparc systems. See if your /etc/inittab has an uncommented entry for c0:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 9600 ttyS0 vt100 If so, comment it out by putting a # at the beginning of the line, and as root restart the init process with the following command (as root); /sbin/telinit q Then try connecting again with pilot-link.
What is the serial port you are trying to use labeled on the back of the machine? I was able to pilot-link to work on an ultra 5 using the 9 pin serial port (/dev/ttyS1 in linux, serial port b on the back of the machine). Also double check that the user you are attempting to sync with is part of the tty group.
Sorry, I didn't report it right away - I got it working. The comment #3 solves it.
Great, glad to hear it :)
