Description Caleb Jorden 2011-04-20 16:48:36 UTC
Wireshark 1.4.5 is not a stable release. It crashes while analyzing TCP packets very quickly. I have seen it crash on my system with very simple captures. The updated Wireshark 1.4.6 release fixes the issue.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Verify wireshark 1.4.5 is installed using latest ebuild (I am using flags adns caps gtk ipv6 lua pcap pcre portaudio python ssl threads zlib)
2. Open iseries.pcap from http://wiki.wireshark.org/SampleCaptures?action=AttachFile&do=view&target=iseries.cap
3. scroll down the list of packets quickly (just to demonstrate), and then back up and down the packet list.
Actual Results:
Within 10 seconds, wireshark 1.4.5 disappears, and

[1]+ Segmentation fault wireshark iseries.cap

is displayed in my terminal.

Expected Results:
The application should continue to function.

This is a known bug in Wireshark 1.4.5. See wireshark bug database here:

So, I just version-bumped the existing ebuild in Portage, and it works well for me thus far. Cheers!

Oh, and this is on 32-bit x86 (bug is for AMD64?).
Comment 4 Jesse Adelman 2011-04-29 01:48:57 UTC
So, is more needed to bump this in Portage?
Comment 5 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-29 03:14:34 UTC
Bumped. pva is usually rather quick about this, so I was waiting patiently.
