When mysql init script stops, it's always set STOPTIMEOUT to 120 sec. Error is in the get_slot_config() function. Quickfix is to replace CHROOT="" NICE="" STARTUPTIMEOUT=5 STOPTIMEOUT=120 with CHROOT="" NICE="" STARTUPTIMEOUT=5 STOPTIMEOUT=${STOPTIMEOUT:=120} Looks like it also ignores any variable mentioned there ;( But it's unright fix and bug needs investigating.

This issue was addressed in mysql-init-scripts-2.0_pre1-r2.
New init scripts are stable on most arches.
