We are all looking for our best linux distro giving us the smallest + fastest + universal + connected + interlinked + easy to use environment to use on as many devices as possible. I would like to suggest to create an Embedded Gentoo Linux for Handleld Devices, providing a meta-level framework for PDAs and other small-memory and energy-dependent devices. This could speed up the optimisation, and ease-of-use-desktopimisation of all our gui tools as well. Here are some links I found for reference to libraries. http://linuxdevices.com/articles/AT9202043619.html http://freedesktop.org/Software/Home Providing PDA specific flags in portage should be easy... gentoo pda herd is only for applications that sync with or communicate with pda type devices. you might want to try gentoo-embedded@lists.gentoo.org for some interested people. or #gentoo-embedded on irc.freenode.net. they are doing exactly what you are proposing
