Description William Throwe 2011-02-24 01:33:52 UTC
Reloading files is messed up and sometimes causes segfaults and invalid free()s with newest poppler. For example, loading a 4 page pdf, moving to the last page and then repeatedly hitting C-r will sometimes display page 3 or 2 or just a blank window. Occasionally epdfview will crash, either with '*** glibc detected *** epdfview: free(): invalid pointer' or with a segfault. Reloading on page 1 seems to work correctly.

On a test I just ran, page 2 was displayed on 11/148 reloads, page 3 on 76/148, page 4 on 56/148, and a blank window on 5/148. Reload 149 resulted in a segfault.

Downgrading to app-text/poppler-0.14.5 makes the problem disappear.

Reproducible: Always

Have you tried rebuilding epdfview since you updated poppler?
Comment 2 Jorge Manuel B. S. Vicetto (RETIRED) Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2011-02-24 18:06:21 UTC
Actually, never mind. This is a duplicate bug.

That bug was a build time failure and was fixed 2 months ago. This is a run time failure and is still broken. (And yes, I've rebuilt epdfview after each remerge of poppler.)
Comment 4 Rafał Mużyło 2011-02-24 22:36:04 UTC
It seems to work fine with a random pdf here, could you provide one, that crashes for you ?
Comment 5 William Throwe 2011-02-25 01:46:24 UTC

A pdf file

It seems to have problems with almost any PDF, but here's one that I've tested and confirmed problems with. Go to page 4 and reload repeatedly. It sometimes takes several (~10) reloads for anything to go wrong. It usually takes something around 100 reloads to cause a crash.
Comment 6 Rafał Mużyło 2011-02-25 16:14:23 UTC
While I can't reproduce your crash, I see a crash on close like in bug 354709 comment 6, but it would seem epdfview should already be fixed in regard of 'linearized'.
Comment 7 Daniel Pielmeier gentoo-dev 2011-08-07 15:35:52 UTC
Can you please try if this bug persists with epdfview-0.1.8.
Comment 8 William Throwe 2011-08-07 17:55:21 UTC
This bug is still present in epdfview-0.1.8.
Comment 9 Daniel Pielmeier gentoo-dev 2011-08-07 18:59:54 UTC
Thanks for the feedback, I have reported this issue to the upstream maintainer.
Comment 10 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2012-01-27 21:27:54 UTC
Please test poppler-0.18 and tell us about the result.
Comment 11 William Throwe 2012-01-28 19:52:51 UTC
This still occurs with poppler-0.18.2.
