Reloading files is messed up and sometimes causes segfaults and invalid free()s with newest poppler. For example, loading a 4 page pdf, moving to the last page and then repeatedly hitting C-r will sometimes display page 3 or 2 or just a blank window. Occasionally epdfview will crash, either with '*** glibc detected *** epdfview: free(): invalid pointer' or with a segfault. Reloading on page 1 seems to work correctly. On a test I just ran, page 2 was displayed on 11/148 reloads, page 3 on 76/148, page 4 on 56/148, and a blank window on 5/148. Reload 149 resulted in a segfault. Downgrading to app-text/poppler-0.14.5 makes the problem disappear. Reproducible: Always $ emerge --info poppler epdfview Portage 2.2.0_alpha25 (default/linux/amd64/10.0, gcc-4.5.2, glibc-2.13-r1, 2.6.37-gentoo x86_64) ================================================================= System Settings ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.37-gentoo-x86_64-Intel-R-_Core-TM-2_CPU_T5500_@_1.66GHz-with-gentoo-2.0.1 Timestamp of tree: Wed, 23 Feb 2011 07:45:01 +0000 app-shells/bash: 4.1_p9 dev-lang/python: 2.7.1-r1, 3.1.3-r1 dev-util/cmake: 2.8.4 sys-apps/baselayout: 2.0.1-r1 sys-apps/openrc: 0.7.0 sys-apps/sandbox: 2.5 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.68 sys-devel/automake: 1.9.6-r3, 1.11.1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.21 sys-devel/gcc: 4.5.2 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.1 sys-devel/libtool: 2.4-r1 sys-devel/make: 3.82 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.36.1 (sys-kernel/linux-headers) Repositories: gentoo wthrowe Installed sets: @system ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" ACCEPT_LICENSE="@FREE" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=native -O2 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/eselect/postgresql /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/language.dat.d /etc/texmf/language.def.d /etc/texmf/updmap.d /etc/texmf/web2c" CXXFLAGS="-march=native -O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--ask" FEATURES="assume-digests binpkg-logs distlocks fixlafiles fixpackages news parallel-fetch preserve-libs protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unknown-features-warn unmerge-logs unmerge-orphans userfetch" FFLAGS="" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.netnitco.net http://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/gentoo/ http://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/gentoo-distfiles/ http://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo ftp://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -Wl,--hash-style=gnu" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/var/lib/layman/wthrowe" SYNC="rsync://rsync.namerica.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X acl acpi afs alsa amd64 berkdb bindist bzip2 cairo caps cdr cli cracklib crypt cxx dbus dri dvd dvdr emacs fortran gd gdbm gimp gpm gtk iconv jpeg kerberos latex mmx modules mudflap multilib ncurses nptl nptlonly opengl openmp pam pcre perl png pppd python readline session smp sse sse2 ssl ssse3 sysfs system-sqlite tcpd truetype unicode xorg xscreensaver zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache cgi cgid dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" CAMERAS="ptp2" COLLECTD_PLUGINS="df interface irq load memory rrdtool swap syslog" ELIBC="glibc" GPSD_PROTOCOLS="ashtech aivdm earthmate evermore fv18 garmin garmintxt gpsclock itrax mtk3301 nmea ntrip navcom oceanserver oldstyle oncore rtcm104v2 rtcm104v3 sirf superstar2 timing tsip tripmate tnt ubx" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev synaptics" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" PHP_TARGETS="php5-3" RUBY_TARGETS="ruby18" SANE_BACKENDS="epson2" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="radeon" XTABLES_ADDONS="quota2 psd pknock lscan length2 ipv4options ipset ipp2p iface geoip fuzzy condition tee tarpit sysrq steal rawnat logmark ipmark dhcpmac delude chaos account" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LINGUAS, PORTAGE_BUNZIP2_COMMAND, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS ================================================================= Package Settings ================================================================= app-text/poppler-0.16.2 was built with the following: USE="abiword cairo cjk cxx jpeg lcms (multilib) png utils xpdf-headers -curl -debug -doc -exceptions (-introspection) -jpeg2k -qt4" app-text/epdfview-0.1.7-r2 was built with the following: USE="(multilib) -cups -debug -nls -test"
Have you tried rebuilding epdfview since you updated poppler?
Actually, never mind. This is a duplicate bug. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 349943 ***
(In reply to comment #2) > Actually, never mind. This is a duplicate bug. > > *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 349943 *** > That bug was a build time failure and was fixed 2 months ago. This is a run time failure and is still broken. (And yes, I've rebuilt epdfview after each remerge of poppler.)
It seems to work fine with a random pdf here, could you provide one, that crashes for you ?
Created attachment 263733 [details] A pdf file It seems to have problems with almost any PDF, but here's one that I've tested and confirmed problems with. Go to page 4 and reload repeatedly. It sometimes takes several (~10) reloads for anything to go wrong. It usually takes something around 100 reloads to cause a crash.
While I can't reproduce your crash, I see a crash on close like in bug 354709 comment 6, but it would seem epdfview should already be fixed in regard of 'linearized'.
Can you please try if this bug persists with epdfview-0.1.8.
This bug is still present in epdfview-0.1.8.
Thanks for the feedback, I have reported this issue to the upstream maintainer.
Please test poppler-0.18 and tell us about the result.
This still occurs with poppler-0.18.2. # emerge -pqv poppler epdfview [ebuild R ] app-text/poppler-0.18.2 USE="cairo cjk cxx introspection jpeg lcms png utils xpdf-headers -curl -debug -doc -jpeg2k -qt4 -tiff" [ebuild R ] app-text/epdfview-0.1.8 USE="-cups -nls -test"
