Needed to stabilize evince-2.32.0-r1 (that fixes a security issue)

Seeing bug 330397 I remembered I needed to preserve glitz on some of my systems to prevent rebuilding a lot of apps, isn't there any other way to prevent that than running revdep-rebuild and waiting?

None. Cairo 'leaks' symbols as soon as you #include cairo's headers. Your only options are to either keep that old library for ever, or to rebuild everything.

Your choice :)
