Hello Due bug 348644 we would like to drop esound support in libgnome in the near future. I have checked you are requiring that dependency with "pronounce" USE flag. I have looked in fedora, opensuse and debian and looks like they are not needing esound support at all, then, I would highly appreciate if this is really required with libgnome-2.32 (maybe it works ok without esd, using libcanberra) Thanks a lot for your help Reproducible: Always
To be more explicit, if you don't object we will move forward by use.masking packages depending on this USE flag while masking it in libgnome itself, and soon after, we will simply rip support out of the libgnome ebuild. We can make the appropriate changes to your ebuild if you don't have enough time on your hands.
The pronounce USE flag got masked with the rest. Feel free to unmask when stardict is updated to use something else, like libcanberra.

Please drop the use mask, it affects also users with USE=-gnome, who have nothing to do with this issue! The use flag causes merely copying of some wav files and without gnome it works. And maybe it works even with gnome without esd. And maybe not, but why bother non-gnome users? Simply removing the libgnome[esd] dependency would impact fewer users. Or forbid gnome && pronounce use flags together.
