It looks like this issue is related to a problem with your harddisc/ramdisc. You should check for disc errors and available space.

This *strongly* seems duplicate of "bug 348640". You upgraded recently your coreutils? What is your "emerge -pv coreutils" output?

This is dup of bug 348640. You either upgrade your kernel or downgrade your coreutils. Maybe you could use* http://tinderbox.dev.gentoo.org/default-linux/amd64/sys-apps/coreutils-8.5.tbz2 if you don't haven't a buildpkg tarball or you follow the instructions of bug 348640. *only if you know what you're doing.
