i have a clean install. i have gotten to the point in the desktop guide which said to compile KDE, which i did. it had 98 packages to attend to so i waited, it got to around 32 left and wanted to install libsdl-1.2.6-r2. when it got to this it adds the patch that it needs anad that patch fails: !!! ERROR media-libs/libsdl1.2.6-r2 failed. !!! Function epatch, line 322, exitcode 8 !!! Failed Patch: libsdl-1.2.6-fullscreen.patch it seems this is more of a bug with that patch but im not sure. when i go to emerge libsdl seperately, this same error occurs. It can also be reproduced. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge kde 2.get to package 30-32 3.crash (error stated above) 4.emerge libsdl 5.crash (error stated above) Actual Results: !!! ERROR media-libs/libsdl1.2.6-r2 failed. !!! Function epatch, line 322, exitcode 8 !!! Failed Patch: libsdl-1.2.6-fullscreen.patch Expected Results: installed libsdl and continued to emerge KDE so i could have a desktop i have a nvidia graphics card that i had installed before by emerging glx, nvidia-kernel, and configuring it as such. i doubt this caused that...but just a good thing to know.
