I seem to be experiencing the bug described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/651678 As per the explanation there (I didn't certainly look into it myself), it seems that gtk+-2.22.x is removing some old icons or moving them elsewhere. So, inkscape can't find them and it crashes this way. $ inkscape ** Gtk:ERROR:gtkrecentmanager.c:1942:get_icon_fallback: assertion failed: (retval != NULL) Emergency save activated! Abortado The proposed patch is for gtk+2.22, and I tested it against the gtk+-2.22.1 ebuild in the portage tree. But it doesn't seem to fix anything. I've been compiling a few things. After trying a few ideas what I did was to mask >=x11-libs/gtk+-2.22, then uninstall gdk-pixbuf and atkmm. I had to downgrade gtk+ and gtkmm again, after that I recompile inkscape. Now it works as it always did before. I suggest changing the dependencies in the inkscape ebuilds to <=x11-libs/gtk+-2.22. I don't know which one is the culprit, but they seem to be incompatible at this stage.
Solved it by creating the ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4 with a gnome theme definition : echo 'gtk-icon-theme-name="gnome"' >> ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4 (gnome-icon-theme must be installed) If you have no KDE4, you can try add it to ~/.gtkrc-2.0
I can confirm that, after this workaround, inkscape is now again able to start. However, it has some graphic bugs. Certain objects are not correctly repainted when moving the mouse or scrolling.
