We've got tons of old, no-longer-working, Gentoo/MIPS stages on the mirrors which need to be cleaned off. We should probably rethink the directory structure too. For instance, a top-level n32 folder is weird. n32 stages should just have n32 in their names.
From the releases/ folder, the only thing we have is 2007.0 media. This just flatly needs to go. 2007.0 is too old to upgrade from. It also confuses users as to why nothing newer than 2007.0 has been "released". If we're going to be purely an experimental port, then we need nothing in released/ except a text document pointing users to the experimental/ folder. Nothing in experimental/mips/embedded/stages/ could possibly be of any use, since it's from Nov 2005. This just needs to go. In experimental/mips/livecd/, we need new images. These are too old to do anything. I guess keep them for now? In experimental/mips/netboot/, these images are from 2005 and don't work with new stages. Sigh. In experimental/mips/stages/, 200{5,6,8}.* needs to go. They're pretty useless now. The experimental/mips/stages/n32/ needs to go. Nothing in there is doing us any good. n32 stages should just live in the regular directory structure and have 'n32' in their names. Other MIPS members: please ack/comment.
(In reply to comment #1) How about a list of what to *keep* ?
(In reply to comment #2) > (In reply to comment #1) > > How about a list of what to *keep* ? Actually, new plan. Can you clean up woodpecker:/space/experimental-local/mips yourself. This seems like the easiest way for me to make changes to the mirrors.
(In reply to comment #0) > We've got tons of old, no-longer-working, Gentoo/MIPS stages on the mirrors > which need to be cleaned off. > Just a warning. I don't have the experience on what is obsolete and should be removed but please make a backup of what you're removing if you have space somewhere (I don't, I would do it if I had) and also, please don't remove any netboot/busybox images cause they can still boot old systems (unless we have made newer busybox images and it's known that they will work flawlessly with the various SGI machinery out there). If I remember correctly, one of those images was able to be loaded and boot a kernel even on a SGI R10K machine! What I'm trying to say, is that some of this MIPS staff, is really *rare* and maybe should be kept.
Err, maybe just make a folder "historical" (or ancient) and put them there (at least the old netboot images).
I think now that we're considering making n32 our primary support target, it would make sense to make it sit with the o32 stages … suitably labelled. The n32/ separation was due to it being, at the time, highly experimental, with much software being very glitchy under N32.
Can you guys just decide and do something?

Copied in my n32 stages as well. I don't know where the netboot images on woodpecker that pchrist mentioned, so they're not in there. Neither is the rc6 SGI boot CD. It's probably pretty important to keep this around, since I can't imagine kumba making a new one any time soon.
rsync'd the netboot images and rc6 sgi cd over. Reopen if there's anything else we need to copy over.
FYI: experimental/ is automatically updated from woodpecker:/space/experimental-local twice per month. Please file new bugs for any issues in the future.
