The issue mentioned in comment #4 about "egrep: Invalid range end" isn't fixed in 4.1.1-r3. It's a manifestation of bug #311885 which hasn't been fixed yet. Possible workaround: LC_ALL=C emerge -1 netcdf You might consider doing something along these lines in the ebuild for now.
