Description Richard Hendrikse 2010-11-02 15:33:01 UTC
Ever since the upgrade to portage 2.1.9, I've been suffering portage segfaulting once the merge starts. like, after emerge -uDav system, and then pressing <enter> to accept. Previously, dropping the 'a' and/or 'v' allowed me to resume regardless, but not anymore with *.24

rebuilding python has not changed this

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

# dmesg | tail

NOTE: dropping 'a' and/or 'v' previously MIGHT work. in some cases, I *had* to drop both to make it work. Downgrading python to 2.6.5 and portage to <2.1.9 indeed still has the intended effect of making this problem go away.
Comment 2 Dirkjan Ochtman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-11-28 12:10:31 UTC
Sorry, but I cannot reproduce this on a somewhat similar system (stable amd64 with unstable portage-2.1.9.24 and python-2.6.6-r1).
Comment 3 Richard Hendrikse 2010-12-02 13:47:44 UTC
Hmmm, I ended up changing the timings downwards on my ram and that magically 'fixed' things crashing (for the most part)

Assuming I can blame a cheap asrock motherboard aging...
Unless someone can give me a helpful hint, memtest agrees :/
