This is correct, just checked it out. The math extension requires latex/dvipng.
So I guess we should do a use flag for this?

At least the one's having external dependencies? The other extension I could find (in the main distribution) was graphviz – perhaps we should add that while at it?
Yeah, I think adding useflags for dependencies in bundled extensions would be nice. Can you come up with a patch/ebuild?
