Description Bernardo Costa 2010-09-29 14:58:44 UTC
The revdep-rebuild message for openssl, indicating that lib(crypto|ssl)-0.9.8 are still installed and should not be dependencies anymore, thus indicating a revdep-rebuild action mentions just "revdep-rebuild --library lib(crypto|ssl)-0.9.8. But, if app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs-20100611 is installed, we get also libraries in /usr/lib32/ with both names, and thus we get false dependencies during the revdep-rebuild process. Prepending /usr/lib64/ (after the first revdep-rebuild) showed that in fact there were no more dependencies for the libraries installed by openssl-1.0.0a-r3.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have openssl-0.9.8 installed (for example, stable amd64) and app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs
2. Emerge openssl-1.0.0a-r3
3. Run revdep-rebuild as suggested by the e-message
Actual Results:
"revdep-rebuild --library libcrypto-0.9.8" will rebuild app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs (which is a binary package, no sense in it), and so forever.

Expected Results:
The ebuild message should be corrected, perhaps to include /usr/lib/ before (this way, it'll work on 32 and 64 archs, I think). This way, revdep-rebuild would only select packages depending on the old 64-bits version of lib(crypto|ssl).

I've had the same problem for a couple weeks.

I got the message about running

revdep-rebuild --library libcrypto.so.0.9.8
revdep-rebuild --library libssl.so.0.9.8

but when I do it just keeps re-emerging the same things over and over.
My emerge --info:

the output no longer does a `basename` on the library given to it
