Description Sven Vermeulen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-11-20 02:56:24 UTC
Hi Gentoo-Team,

I've written a small HOWTO about how to bring the external monitor to life on
the IBook. http://www.mockies.de/main.php?seite=linuxdocs&tab=5&lang=en
I think it would fit well into the PPC-FAQ.
I would supply a version with the layout/colors of the FAQ-Document if wanted.

Btw, this is an e-mail to www@gentoo.org From: Christoph Mockenhaupt <gentoo@mockies.de>

how do you want it? a link and a breif description added to the faq?
or implent it in?

Implement it. I do not want to refer to sites gentoo doesn't control.

The FAQ doesn't need to be as elaborate as the example is, but if it is a good FAQ (we should ask this to some PPC ppl) we should implement it.

I'll take care of it :)
I'll survey around in #gentoo-ppc

Reply from Kevyn Shortell <trance@gentoo.org>:
The stock answer is no, as external monitor support is not supportedacross the entire ibook line due to video card differances between thevarious models. that webpage while it worked for the owner, it's not acatch all answer. In fact that guide won't work for my ibook. Externalmonitor support is still in its infancy and as such there isn't a guidethat will handle all of them. Some of the models require additionalsoftware to do it, some the software doesn't exist for it yet.

so I'll mark it as WONTFIX
