Description Agostino Sarubbo gentoo-dev 2010-09-29 12:20:41 UTC
I build in a kernel this option:

E2160 ago # grep -i cpu_freq .config /usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:CONFIG_CPU_FREQ=y
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_TABLE=y
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEBUG=y
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_STAT is not set
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_PERFORMANCE is not set
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_POWERSAVE is not set
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_USERSPACE is not set
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_ONDEMAND=y
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_CONSERVATIVE is not set
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_PERFORMANCE=y
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_POWERSAVE=y
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_USERSPACE=y
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_ONDEMAND=y
/usr/src/linux-2.6.35-hardened/.config:# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_CONSERVATIVE is not set

But when i start my O.S. i see with cpufreq-info and with gkrellm who default governor is performance.

Reproducible: Always

Comment 2 Agostino Sarubbo gentoo-dev 2010-09-29 12:27:50 UTC
the problem is with kernel 2.6.34-r6-hardened and 2.6.35-hardened

2.6.32-r9-hardened respect ondemand governor at boot time
Comment 3 Michael Weber (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-09-30 13:04:00 UTC
Can you boot into single user or init=/bin/bash to verify that no userland/runlevel script tempers with the governor setting?

Comment 4 Anthony Basile gentoo-dev 2010-09-30 13:16:01 UTC
Can you test with the corresponding vanilla kernels to make sure this is a hardened specific problem. Try the following:

hardened-sources-2.6.32-r18 <-> vanilla-2.6.32.21
hardened-sources-2.6.35 <-> vanilla-2.6.35.6

Ebuilds for 2.6.32-r19 and 2.6.35-r1 will be hitting the tree soon. If you want you can test with them instead - the corresponding vanilla is noted in the Changelog.

I'll do some testing at my end too.

I try with .35 vanilla, and i have same result: ondemand is not respect at boot time

I have hardened-sources-2.6.32-r9 so i try vanilla-2.6.32.13 and ondemand was respect.

I try also vanilla-2.6.34.7 and ondemand doesen't work at boot time.

from these results suggests that the problem is not in hardened-sources, it could change the summary of the bug.
I have previously described the hardened, since I had those installed, not knowing what the problem was upstream
Comment 7 Anthony Basile gentoo-dev 2010-10-02 12:26:49 UTC
This is not a hardened specific problem. In fact, there is already a Gentoo bug open for it.
