When a system has XFS volumes, you cannot force a filesystem check at boot (see 'man fsck.xfs'), and the fake 'fsck' that does occur may confuse some users into thinking something useful is happening. Often an XFS filesystem check is not needed [1] but at times it may be desirable to be able to check XFS volumes (xfs_check) before they are mounted.
