PostgreSQL 7.4 has now been released and is stable, and needs to be added to portage :) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. N/A
Hi, Yes. I'm working it. I think it's good if postgresql becomes SLOTed package. And I would like to split package into -server, -tools, -libs and -contrib etc. Any idea?
to SLOT postgres is a very good idea... this way transitions can be more smooth, and i can even use 2 versions of postgres, old one for keeping up the existing DBs and new one for development, testing new features and preparing migration. Splitting the package is a nice idea too, but i'm afraid there's no concept from gentoo yet about how to do this... would you use USE flags or different ebuilds? Bug http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12499 shows some discussion about this topic, you might also read the "duplicates" of that bug to see some other viewpoints about that. Yours Mike
please don't split unless bug 12499 is resolved
I know that bug. I've thought I would do after resolving that bug :) I just wanted to know if postgresql user want to split postgresql.
For now until that bug is resolved I think we should just leave it as is... I personally would perfer USE flags over separate packages... but first we should just get 7.4 in portage ;)
now in CVS. It's just bumped version.
