Current versions require wxGTK/wxpthon-2.6 which are both being removed soon. There seems to be later versions available but they may not run native on linux.
remove it is.
# Ryan Hill <dirtyepic@gentoo.org> (12 Mar 2011) # Mask net-p2p/bittorrent for removal 20110412 (#336166) # Dead upstream. Requires wxpython-2.6 which is being removed. # Doesn't build with python-2.6. Doesn't start. net-p2p/bittorrent
wxpython is only needed for the GTK gui. Can we please keep the package and just disable the GUI? The base scripts work perfectly fine for me with Python 2.6, I used them to prepare the Gentoo 11.0 release torrents.
Why don't we downgrade to 4.4.0. That was the last release before they moved to wxpython. Fedora's package is frozen at this version for exactly this reason, and is reasonably maintained.
Mostly fine with me. I had tweaked my scripts to work better w/ 5, but going back to 4.4.0 is trivial enough.
4.4.0-r2 added. I'll remove later versions when it gets keyworded.
Should be fixed in tree.

Um, actually you removed the only stable ebuild and left 5.2.2 around.
(In reply to comment #9) > Um, actually you removed the only stable ebuild and left 5.2.2 around. the way i've left them in tree now, was done in purpose. nothing uses wx 2.6 anymore and users get to pick which branch they use. if you disagree, feel free to remove more or open stablereq. no longer blocker for bug 330683 -> remove from Blocks list of the bug.
The bug says "remove >=net-p2p/bittorrent-5". Not sure how not doing that fixes the bug. See the long list of dependencies marked WONTFIX you now made me a liar on? And the point is you removed the only stable, which didn't req wxGTK at all.
And he's not CC'd anymore, is he...
Restored old ebuild and removed 5.0. I apologize for the breakage.
