Ok, I've added LDFLAGS to the flags passed to the compiler.  I'm not bumping this because the change won't have a significant impact on those using tool (it doesn't pull in any other libraries so even the default --as-needed won't make a difference).  Marking as FIXED, please reopen if there's another problem.  5:)
