I've been trying to get this working. I took the patch set from 2.6.5-r3, removed the 00 branch ports thing we disliked, and added the 2.6 patch from bug 329499. It builds fine, but when I ebuild python-2.6.6.ebuild test, the test suite fails because from test import test_support cannot be imported. Any clues on this? Other stuff that should go into this?
(This is intended as a tracker bug for the 2.6.6 upgrade.)
I've just uploaded the patch set to distfiles, will commit the ebuild later. This includes the fix for bug 329499.

There's a package.masked version in the tree now. Please test!
hasn't made it to the mirrors yet. i got the distfiles and the ebuild but i can't find: python-gentoo-patches-2.6.2-r5.tar.bz2 which it seems to want for some-reason?
i'm a moron. old Manifest lying around. got 2.6.6 installed. seems to work fine. doesn't fix my issue with flexget. nice work, here!
Had to add a block on <portage-2.1.9 because of bug 330937, unmasked now.
(In reply to comment #7) > Had to add a block on <portage-2.1.9 because of bug 330937, unmasked now. It's safe now? I see someone posted on that bug today! Is this still broken? Can people emerge -u world safely now without having portage crippled?
i believe i have a sighting of this: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=330937 using python 2.6.6: IOError: [Errno 11] Resource temporarily unavailable whenever i try to emerge anything...
What version of portage are you running?
I've bumped to 2.6.6-r1, I did some silly things for 2.6.6. Please give it a whirl.
