XBMC includes a web server, which has a handy web based remote control interface and a JSON API. There are multiple XBMC remote control applications that use this interface, such as the official Android one.

A use flag ("webserver") should be added to enable this functionality. libmicrohttpd is required, and the request for packaging that is bug 332313
