Description Mehmet Giritli 2010-08-05 09:45:04 UTC
There is a va-api plugin for the gstreamer at the url given above. It should be added into the portage especially for the people who would like to watch blu-ray files comfortably on their computer....

Reproducible: Always

@herd: Are you interested? Fell free to reassign it to maint-wanted if no. Michael

We'd be more interested if it were part of gst-plugins-bad or others already, like the VDPAU code is. I don't have any means to actually test this, maybe Ford_Prefect or someone else does?

I haven't tried this plugin, but I don't see much activity for the last few months. Also, note that it depends on libavcodec, which is probably going to need to be cleaned up before it can be merged into -bad or such.

I vote we wait till it can be merged.

Additionally, are you guys aware that just adding it doesn't mean it'll get magically used by totem and the like, right?
Playbin2/decodebin needs to be able to autoplug it, for it to get used in autoplugged pipelines, such as used by totem and virtually everything else generic.

Finally I managed to install and use the plugin and the good news is that it is working very well!

The ebuild is from the wavilen overlay, the only version of 0.2.5. I am using nvidia drivers 260.19.36 with vdapu-video 0.7.3 and currently stable ffmpeg.

The only comment I should make about the ebuild is that it should pull ffmpeg with the vaapi use flag, which it currently doesnt. I spent some time until I figured that one out...

Well, I am currently watching 1080p HD videos from itunes trailers website with somewhere between 5-8% cpu load. I am also seeing very good acceleration for windows video files and mpeg video files. However, DVD playback is not working. I emailed the author but havent heard from him yet.

I added latest version to my overlay:
http://code.google.com/p/gekis-playground/source/browse/#svn/trunk/media-plugins/gst-plugins-vaapi/

It requires gstreamer version 0.10.36 for some object/method to be available.
I am going to open a bugreport for that bump.
