It seems the stable version is getting slightly dated, so perhaps a bump can be done (and, possibly clean-out the dev-vcs/git directory - 32 ebuilds currently!).  It looks a little too early for 1.7.1, only in the tree for a few weeks, but perhaps 1.7.0.4 would work.
