Description Daniel Faucon 2010-04-18 21:45:58 UTC
When emerging www-client/chromium with mp3 and x264 useflags, html5 medias in mp3 and h.264 formats are not supported.

This is revealed by youtube's H.264 html5 or, more easily, http://html5test.com

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

Should be fixed in 5.0.375.9. Please re-open if that's not the case.

Almost, html5test still complains about missing mp3 support.

Maybe it's just a depedency missing, for what should I look for ? (which packages or useflags to enable mp3 support, besides cromium's one)
Comment 3 Paweł Hajdan, Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-04-20 07:46:55 UTC
html5test.com checks a different MIME type than what Chromium advertises.

I've just checked a Google Chrome build and html5test.com also "complained" about missing mp3 support. Please file bugs upstream, either for Chromium or html5test.com.

When you do that, please post a link here for reference.

I can't reopen this bug report, but I figure I'd just post a comment. Even after installing www-client/chromium-5.0.375.9 I am still unable to play videos on youtube using html5.

Re-opening this bug for an unrelated problem doesn't seem to be a good solution. Please just open a new bug with detailed steps to reproduce the issue.
Comment 6 Bailey Kong 2010-04-20 17:04:59 UTC
Forgive me, but I believe the issue is related, as youtube uses H.264 format for video playback in html5. When I attempt to play html5 videos on youtube, it drops back to flash thus leading me to believe that chromium is not properly advertising that it can play H.264 videos. If in your opinion this issue is still unrelated to this bug, then I will open a new one.

Yes, the issue you're writing about is unrelated, and I still want to get more details about it (in the new bug). This bug is about some USE flags not taking effect, which is now fixed (the browser claims to support mp3 and x264 if these flags are enabled).
