Description Slava 2010-03-31 02:06:16 UTC
Whenever I create/remove an lvm snapshot i get an 'Unable to find dmeventd' error. The snapshot appears to have been created fine, the data is there and intact and removing did work also...but the error always shows up.

This was reported in bug 290788 for x86 which was closed as fixed in version 2.02.56; but it appears the new version still has this problem on amd64

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create/remove lvm snapshot
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Unable to find dmeventd error is shown

Expected Results:
should not see Unable to find dmeventd

I've just tested 2.02.64 and the bug is still there.
The problem is (at least in my tests) that dmeventd is not started by the init script and LVM tries to start it itself.
But instead of searching the dmeventd binary in /sbin/dmeventd, where it has been installed, LVM tries to open /usr/sbin/dmeventd.
It seems like this is an upstream bug, because the default installation path of dmeventd is constructed using the sbin_dir (respectively static_dir) from the configuration process, whereas the default search path of dmeventd is constructed using EPREFIX/sbin.
Anyway I think it would be a good idea to add --with-dmeventd-path=/sbin/dmeventd to the ebuilds.
