Description Jeremy Murphy 2010-03-28 12:42:32 UTC
Bibus fails to start and there is a Python traceback that refers to a GnomePrint symbol. It appears that Bibus depends on GNOME print libraries, because after I installed gnome-base/libgnomeprint it magically worked again. I guess it should be a simple matter of adding a dependency to the bibus ebuild to fix this.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Remove libgnomeprint from system.
2. Run bibus.

Actual Results:

Actually, with some further testing, the problem and solution are a little more straightforward: bibus depends on x11-libs/wxGTK[+gnome].

Hi Jeremy,

If you re-emerge wxGTK without gnome dep and wxpython, do you still get the error?

Thanks

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean... bibus depends on wxpython and I have just said that it depends on the wxGTK[gnome] dependency... how/why would I contradict that? I'm not saying it's impossible, I just need you to give me some more details.

I have not tried bibus (many heavy dependencies), but quickly grep'ing bibus code does not show any any call to gnomeprint routines. I am thinking your wxpython was built on top of a wxGTK[gnome]. But you might have disabled the gnome use flag afterward, rebuild your wxGTK[-gnome] and wxpython actually still refered to the older wxGTK. If this is the case, re-installing wxpython should fix it, but then it would be an wxpython automagic bug.
I might be wrong, so please test.
Comment 6 Jeremy Murphy 2010-05-02 05:39:03 UTC
You're right!!

After I remerged wxGTK[-gnome] and then rebuilt wxpython bibus worked fine. A perspicacious observation, Sébastien. I'll close this bug as invalid -- should a bug for wxpython be opened now?

Please do! Thanks for testing and reporting.
