Description Thomas Beierlein gentoo-dev 2010-03-24 17:30:34 UTC
Calling 'bconsole' after the upgrade from 3.0.3 gives:

bconsole: error while loading shared libraries: libbaccfg.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

A check of all libs and programs of the package shows that only 'bconsole' links to the old library.

A look into the logfile shows that -L/usr/lib is in search path before the relative path to the new libs:

/var/tmp/portage/app-backup/bacula-5.0.1-r2/work/bacula-5.0.1/libtool --silent --tag=CXX --mode=link /usr/bin/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -Wl,-O1 -L/usr/lib -L../lib -L../cats -o bconsole console.o console_conf.o authenticate.o  \
-lreadline -lhistory -lncurses -lbaccfg -lbac -lm -lpthread -ldl -lssl -lcrypto

Patch to fix search livrary order for update

The attached patch fixes the search order for the libraries. Local lib build dir gets now searched before global ones with installed libs from former version.
Comment 3 Thomas Beierlein gentoo-dev 2010-03-30 12:23:42 UTC
The problem is know by the bacula developers and gets discussed e.g. in http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=201002181859.o1IIxh8R032114%40higson.cam.lispworks.com&forum_name=bacula-devel

At the moment they will not change their linking order but suggest to install the old version before installing a new one.

Opps, typo. Should be *uninstall* the old version before installing the new one.

Fixed in 5.0.2.
