Description Justin Lecher (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-03-17 11:52:43 UTC
Today randomly my X started to crash. The only things I know, that it happens when switching from one window to another. It happens at least when switching to ff and urxvt, but I think it is the switching not the app where it goes to.

dmesg says:

[drm:i915_gem_object_bind_to_gtt] *ERROR* Invalid object alignment requested 4096

Xorg.0.log says:

Backtrace:
0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x38) [0x80ab308]
Bus error at address 0x44009000

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 7 (Bus error). Server aborting

Please try with a newer kernel. 2.6.33 should do.

Thanks
Comment 3 andrex 2010-04-20 05:07:43 UTC
I had exactly the same problem -- at least one X crash each day with the same error message usually after switching windows. Upgrading from sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.31-gentoo-r6 to sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.33 fixed the problem. I have not seen an X crash since the upgrade a couple of weeks ago.

Comment 4 Justin Lecher (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-04-20 06:08:37 UTC
Oh yes, that fixed it for me too.

Alright, thanks for the follow up.

Closing with the proper resolution.
