New version of the close-source catalyst driver. Still no support for xorg-server-1.7*.

Reproducible: Always

*ati-drivers-10.2 (23 Feb 2010)

  23 Feb 2010; Luca Barbato <lu_zero@gentoo.org> +ati-drivers-10.2.ebuild:
  Updated version

fixed? Or is this bug intended to get a working driver with xorg-server-1.7?
Comment 2 urcindalo 2010-02-24 07:53:09 UTC
I know this is off topic, but I can't even start up KDE 4.3.5 with this new version. Could anybody tell me the URL to the official ATI bug reports? Or any page they read for sure? I can't seem to find anything not game-related :(

I'd rather have some feedbacks, if the driver itself is _that_ problematic the next ones will be put in portage p.masked and the unmasked upon feedback...

I was hoping it was just a small fix here and there and I wanted to let you have it as soon as I could.

Yes, thank you. It is not your fault. It is ATI's. That's why I want to raise my voice on its forums.

I'm forced to use this piece of crap and to use an xorg-server version <1.7 only because pymol does not work properly with radeon's 3D acceleration.

Feedback? KDM with the login screen shows up OK, but there seems to be a problem with kwin (I just google'd a little bit) and KDE start-up hangs during the splash screen. Mouse is responsive, though (if my memory is not mistaken).
Comment 5 Shaun Oleson 2010-02-24 20:59:24 UTC
I can confirm the kwin hang as the splash screen is finishing for 10.2
Comment 6 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2010-02-24 21:20:41 UTC
could you please provide a backtrace?

Try setting

Option "Composite" "false"

in xorg.conf. This should solve the problem. There are a few errors with 10.2 and composite. The fading of the screen before logout or reboot blocks the computer and takes very very long. Without composite support everything works as expected.

This cured my KDE 4.3.5 startup crash, if you put the above option in the "Extensions" Section as follows:

Section "Extensions"
        option "Composite" "false"
EndSection
I didn't know what section to put this in and failed to get my system working for a few hours until I figured out what section to put it in.
Hopefully, ati-drivers-10.3 will fix this problem.

Should this bug be closed, or the "10.2" in the summary changed to "10.3", or we just wait for 10.4?
Comment 10 Frédéric COIFFIER 2010-05-26 16:06:00 UTC
As the 10.4 is in the portage tree, is it possible to close this report ?
Is there someone behind Luca Barbato <lu_zero@gentoo.org> as many old bug reports are still opened but corrected in the facts ?
Comment 11 Luca Barbato gentoo-dev 2010-05-27 14:45:07 UTC
Closed now =)
