When lafilefixer failed, it does not have clear message stating it failed to fix files. ---- /usr/lib64/libgtkhtml-editor.la already clean, skipping update. /usr/lib64/libSDL_mixer.la already clean, skipping update. Debug information: /usr/lib64/libtunepimp.la /-lstdc++ Holy Moley, Dorothy, we ain't in Kansas and Luke, I'm not your father ----- There is no mention of error, failed, warning, abort... unless you are in on the joke, you can miss the fact that it failed. As much as I like the joke, it needs a clearer failed message: Error: /usr/lib64/libtunepimp.la could not be fixed. lafilefixer could not clear your system The breakage of *.la caused major issues, this script should be a bit more informative. Reproducible: Always http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-814946-start-0-postdays-0-postorder-asc-highlight-.html
Looks pretty clear to me that the tunepimp file is weird.
+*tunepimp-0.5.3-r3 (11 Feb 2010) + + 11 Feb 2010; Samuli Suominen <ssuominen@gentoo.org> + +tunepimp-0.5.3-r3.ebuild: + Remove broken and unrequired libtunepimp.la wrt #304557.
Most people do not know what lafilefixer does. We used it because we are told to do so. Debug information: /usr/lib64/libtunepimp.la /-lstdc++ Nothing in this is clearly stating an error for non-developer. Just adding a "Error:" would make it clear. Thanks Samuli, it was an orphan file for me - package was lo longer installed.
