Description jamatik 2010-02-10 12:12:46 UTC
all version of mythtv falling scanning or tuning if you have the hauppauge hvr-4000. i self tested dvb-t.

here is finally a hotfix - it slows down the things a bit, but a least hvr4000 works now.

USEflag "hvr4000fix" for the patch?

please include this into the ebuild(s) of mythtv

Reproducible: Always

Please retest with 0.23 as the channel scanner has been updated.
Comment 3 jamatik 2010-06-21 14:23:30 UTC
tested with kernel 2.6.34 and a clean mythtv-0.23 install ->
nochange - still no tuning and scanning without patch

btw used mythtv-0-23-fixes for attached patch

so before you ask version 0.23.1 doesn't fix this, too. nothing happens here with this bug:-( hauppauge cards are very common. so damn it, add this patch.
Comment 6 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-07-27 23:46:13 UTC
Your patch merely adds a 5 second sleep everywhere. Random sleeps are hardly a proper solution. What may work on your machine will not work on someone's machine that is slower.

I would encourage you to work with upstream to find a proper solution.
Comment 7 jamatik 2011-03-05 23:27:53 UTC
developers from e.g. mythtv say it's a upstream bug too. But wont talk to upstream. And Upstream seems not to feel like getting active either or aren't willing. But like all users have problems with hvr1300, hvr3000, hvr4000 and tuning for over 2 years now... A kernel driver patch from upstream introduced this bug in first place, nobody knows why they not reverting it.

Here I found a helping discussion and a patch for hvr1300 which I modified to work with above mentioned cards. using newest dvb-firmware and gentoo.sources-2.6.37-r1

In the end, after let's say 3 years:-(, a race condition in the kernel was fixed since 3.x and makes this bug obsolete. tested with gentoo-sources-3.1.0 + hvr-4000
