Description Jeremy Murphy 2010-02-10 04:15:29 UTC
kdesu works fine most of the time. Sometimes, after restarting X, kdesu fails to work, it just hangs. Running strace shows that it hangs when connecting to the user's socket file in /tmp. Deleting that socket file restores functionality.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Restart X
2. Run "kdesu <command>"
3. Repeat until step 2 fails.

Actual Results:
kdesu hangs.

Expected Results:
kdesu runs the command.

strace of kdesu running konsole
Comment 2 Jeremy Murphy 2010-03-15 11:16:47 UTC
Hasn't happened in 4.3.5 yet on either machine so fingers crossed...
Comment 3 Jeremy Murphy 2010-04-26 04:21:24 UTC
Alas, it didn't just go away by itself after all.

Does the socket 'go stale' or is kdesu forgetting to delete it after it has finished with it?
Comment 4 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2010-08-18 21:40:47 UTC
Does this still happen with kdesu-4.4.4?

By strace-ing kdesu on my machine, I have figured out a socket problem: removing /tmp/ksocket-mike/kdesud_:0 works for me.

This is the output of kdesu -c /usr/bin/konsole on my machine

getuid()                                = 1000
stat("/tmp/ksocket-mike", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=384, ...}) = 0
lstat("/tmp", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|S_ISVTX|0777, st_size=1280, ...}) = 0
lstat("/tmp/ksocket-mike", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=384, ...}) = 0
lstat("/tmp", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|S_ISVTX|0777, st_size=1280, ...}) = 0
lstat("/tmp/ksocket-mike", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=384, ...}) = 0
stat("/tmp/ksocket-mike/", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=384, ...}) = 0
access("/tmp/ksocket-mike/kdesud_:0", R_OK|W_OK) = 0
socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 9
connect(9, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/tmp/ksocket-mike/kdesud_:0"}, 29) = ? ERESTARTSYS (To be restarted)
Comment 6 Jan Essert 2010-09-13 19:46:49 UTC
This still happens to me with kdesu-4.5.1.
Comment 7 Theo Chatzimichos (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2010-12-30 16:45:58 UTC
someone report upstream plz
Comment 8 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2011-04-03 15:54:22 UTC
Do you have any better luck with kde-4.6.2 (in tree in a few days, stable candidate)?
Comment 9 Jeremy Murphy 2011-04-12 23:29:33 UTC
I just installed 4.6.2, so now it's wait and see if it still happens.
Comment 10 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2011-04-19 20:35:26 UTC
Added upstream bug.
Not a regression compared to 4.4, so not blocking stabilization.

Jeremy, if the problem occurs again, upstream is asking for a gdb backtrace of the hanging process... this may take some fiddling...
Comment 11 Jeremy Murphy 2011-04-23 08:10:28 UTC
I haven't noticed the bug since I installed 4.6.2, so I'm going to mark it closed.
