After each update of scite I have to do something like:

# recode latin1..utf8 /usr/share/scite/*.properties

because the properties files, mainly SciTEGLOBAL.properties contain non-ascii chars which are encoded in latin1.

Wouldn't it be nice to have an postbuild step to recode those files from the source encoding latin1 to the maschine default encoding specified by the locale?

and set the scite global settings accordingly?

Upstream says that should not be re-encoded.
