Description sam logen 2010-01-19 13:36:29 UTC
Compiling a system without the USE flag "svg" will compile cairo without its support. This svg support seems necessary for the program Devede to run. Yet the ebuild for Devede doesn't complain about this missing dependency, and the program compiles successfully. The final binary, however, won't execute.

This may be something that should be addressed upstream in the configure script.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Do not have USE flag "svg" present in any relevant config files (make.conf, package.use, etc.)
2. emerge cairo
3. emerge devede
4. execute "devede" from console

Actual Results:
$ devede
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/devede", line 27, in <module>
    import gtk
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py", line 40, in <module>
    from gtk import _gtk
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/cairo/__init__.py", line 1, in <module>
    from _cairo import *
ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/cairo/_cairo.so: undefined symbol: cairo_svg_surface_create_for_stream

Expected Results:
Devede gui to appear.

$ emerge --info (I added USE flag "svg" afterwards. Still compiling to check results)

I think this is INVALID, though at this point it's
probably impossible to prove.

It looks more like you had cairo[svg] installed,
emerged pycairo and then emerged cairo again,
with '-svg'. Missing symbols in pycairo were the result.

That's a nice thought, except this is from a brand new install. And "svg" had never been a part of the install because it was pulling in gnome dependencies, which I didn't want at the time, in a kde system.

Closing as invalid since the cairo[svg] dependency is required by gtk+ not devede.
