Since my recent update from the xorg X server 1.4 to the current one, programs like x11-misc/x2vnc / x11-misc/synergy / x11-misc/synergy-plus don't work anymore. Problem: Mouse doesn't leave screen. The mentioned applications are used to share a single mouse/keyboard with other machines. Since my upgrade to X.org X server 1.6.5, these programs seem to connect to their counterparts on the other machines as they are supposed to, but the mouse seems not to be allowed to leave the screen of the X Server of the machine it is physically connected to. (Although in one single, not reproducible situation (without setup changes), the mouse was able to switch to the other screen). Tried it with the standard Gnome Setup (Gnome + metacity 2.26) as well as with Fluxbox, to test whether it is a Gnome-related problem: With Fluxbox same behavior. On a Ubuntu (Jaunty)-based machine that runs X.org X server 1.6.0 everything works fine. So the problem seems to be related either to some changes introduced between X.org X server 1.6.0 and 1.6.5, or to some Gentoo-specific changes of the configuration of the involved X server packages. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Setup x11vnc, or synerge, or synergy-plus 2. Try to let your mouse switch to the other screen Actual Results: Nothing happens. Mouse pointer stays on the machine to which it is physically connected to. Expected Results: Mouse pointer should disappear on the machine it is connected to, and input devices (keyboard/mouse) should control other machine.
After checking synergy's debug output, it turned out that this only concerns x2vnc (which I used for years...) The alternative synergy / synergy-plus is working fine.
You did not mention which versions you are using. It seems to work for me (testing using Xnest of xorg-server-1.7.4.902, x11vnc 0.9.9 and x2vnc 1.7.2). Sorry that this took so long, I don't have much time and had quite a few problems with my dev box.
Could you please check with current 1.7.x?
Clemens? Did you give up or is 1.7.x ok for you?
