Not too sure as to what extra might be needed here,as I have never run gdb, reading the info file it seems as though kmail would be run in a terminal, which I would have thought not too helpful.

Kcrash did not caught the SIGSEGV ? ie, a popup saying "Your application suddenly crashed BANG BANG BANG I'll reboot your freezer"

Btw, it works just fine here... strange.
What about your ~/.xsession-errors ?

x86-root-xsession-errors

not too sure Which machine the problem was created ,hence the additional xsession file. In explanation the x86 was trying the nvidia drivers last night which wasn't successful, and was switched back to the nv driver, apparently my video card is not supported anymore.

Do you still see this in kde 4.3.5 or 4.4.2?

it doesn't appear to be evident in either 4.4.1 or 4.4.2, but then the system is much more stable with the later versions. Will be updating the x86 beige box tonight to 4.4.2. Did have one hassle with kmail not accessing my provider, with 4.4.1,saying the EHLO command not recognised, I recompiled kmail and the problem went away,so I didn't report this.

OK, so let's consider this fixed in 4.4.2. If not, please reopen...
