Description Martin Gerdzhev 2009-11-15 01:07:54 UTC
I have a mobility radeon-hd 3650 video card and when trying to use the open source radeonhd driver for X I'm getting a screen with just vertical white lines that are pulsing and changing color. The machine is still responsive as I can log in even though I cannot see anything. X works with the radeon driver (even though I have some repainting issues with that driver) but there's no compositing. Fglrx doesn't work with Xorg-1.7.1 yet.
I am using :
[ebuild R ] x11-drivers/xf86-video-radeonhd-1.3.0 USE="-debug" 0 kB

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Set driver to "radeonhd" in xorg.conf
2.start gdm
3.

Actual Results:
Screen corrupted

Expected Results:
Screen should be fine and showing the GDM screen

Xorg.0.log

Here's my Xorg.0.log when using the radeonhd driver
Comment 2 Patrick Lauer gentoo-dev 2009-11-15 09:36:14 UTC
If you have the darn fglrx module loaded such artifacts may happen. You have to rmmod it or even reboot to get the graphics card into a sane state.

Also, radeon tends to work better than radeonhd, you may wish to use that.

Please reopen if you can reproduce this without fglrx loaded etc.
Comment 3 Martin Gerdzhev 2009-11-15 16:55:34 UTC
The fglrx module isn't loaded when this happens. Nevertheless I uninstalled ati-drivers and tried the radeonhd driver again and still a no-go. Just the same garbled screen.
Comment 4 Nico Baggus 2010-09-18 19:55:25 UTC
As this card is now unsupported by upstream and masked in Portage.
The xorg-driver should also get updated to not include a flag for it...

Closing then.
