not the only thing it fails on (with USE="hpcups libnotify scanner")

checking for sane_open in -lsane... no
configure: error: cannot find sane-backends-devel support (or --disable-scan-build)

weird thing is that I've got sane-backends (-> libsane) installed...

oh... I've found out in config.log that it was caused by missing sys-libs/libieee1284
Comment 6 David Honour 2010-02-14 08:03:37 UTC
not fixed in hplip-3.9.12-r1, will attach another build log

build log for net-print/hplip-3.9.12-r1

seems to be the same issue, suspect missing dependancy

Hm, why are maintainers not on CC?

It should build if you install net-analyzer/net-snmp. Can you please try.

Your error seems to be different to the one of the reporter. Can you provide the full build log and the output of "emerge --info net-print/hplip" without sys-libs/libieee1284 installed. Do you also have the parport use flag enabled as it seems you are using a device attached to the parallel port?

Also it is strange that it errors out about sane-backends.

With snmp installed hplip builds and installs fine.
If you like I could write a patch for the ebuild, since from my previous tinkering this seems simple enough.

I'm sorry I didn't notice your request before. This bug is fixed for me too.

PS: I'm not using any parallel device.

Didn't you mention you need sys-libs/libieee1284 to make hplip build? Or is this no longer true?
Comment 16 David Watzke 2010-04-06 20:17:48 UTC
It is no longer true. I don't really know why.
Comment 17 Daniel Pielmeier gentoo-dev 2010-04-06 20:36:26 UTC
So closing this now.
