I run several stable systems, using KDE. The recent upgrade to KDE4 forces me to use an unstable kernel >=gentoo-sources-2.6.31 in order to make the system work, see bug #288346. KDE3.5 is about to be removed from portage, so I must soon upgrade all my systems to KDE4. Is it possible to stabilise a suitable kernel, so that a stable KDE4 system can be built? Reproducible: Always
Stabilizing 2.6.31 is definitely in our plans. Right now we have a few regressions in 2.6.31 I'd like to see resolved. But we have not forgotten about making a 2.6.31 stable.
Please consider stabilizing =sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.31-r6 and matching =sys-kernel/vanilla-sources-2.6.31.6. They fix bug 291904, which is present in all 2.6.31[<.6] kernels, see [1] for the upstream bug. This bug causes multiple race conditions in fs/pipe.c [1]http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2009-3547
