CVE-2009-3765 (http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2009-3765): mutt_ssl.c in mutt 1.5.19 and 1.5.20, when OpenSSL is used, does not properly handle a '\0' character in a domain name in the subject's Common Name (CN) field of an X.509 certificate, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof arbitrary SSL servers via a crafted certificate issued by a legitimate Certification Authority, a related issue to CVE-2009-2408.
CVE-2009-3766 (http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2009-3766): mutt_ssl.c in mutt 1.5.16, when OpenSSL is used, does not verify the domain name in the subject's Common Name (CN) field of an X.509 certificate, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof SSL servers via an arbitrary valid certificate.
Maintainers, please provide a fixed ebuild. More information: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2009-3765
versions 1.5.16 and 1.5.19-r1 dropped for this bug to reduce the problem to 1.5.20. I have a little problem there: bug #290154. Solution there to force going forwards is to package.use.mask for all the arches that didn't have time to check tokyocabinet yet. I will prepare mutt-1.5.20-r8 right now with the patch (if it applies at all)
So mutt-1.5.20-r8 is OK for stabilizing now?
it's fine for stabilising with me (maintainer), we need to get bug #290154 resolved before though, which can be done quickly if security thinks this is important enough to just have the tokyocabinet USE-flag masked on arches which didn't have time to check yet.
I asked, because the patch seemed problematic and you didn't write anything after #3. It only allows for mail interceptions, so I think we can wait for bug #290154. With your advice I can add arches as soon as that bug is solved, thanks.
bug #290154 no longer blocks, sorry mips. Stable target now is mutt-1.5.20-r10
Arches, please test and mark stable: =mail-client/mutt-1.5.20-r10 Target keywords : "alpha amd64 hppa ia64 ppc ppc64 sparc x86"
ppc and ppc64 done
everything seems to be alright in the x86 land also, even with USE=tokiocabinet, which used to be harder to enable before and theres no stablereq for dev-db/tokyocabinet yet!
Looks good on x86. Several useflag-combis tested, sidebar tested, no mail eaten. $ emerge --info Portage 2.1.6.13 (default/linux/x86/10.0/desktop, gcc-4.3.4, glibc-2.9_p20081201-r2, 2.6.32.2 i686) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.32.2-i686-Intel-R-_Core-TM-2_Duo_CPU_L7500_@_1.60GHz-with-gentoo-2.0.1 Timestamp of tree: Sat, 09 Jan 2010 08:45:02 +0000 ccache version 2.4 [enabled] app-shells/bash: 4.0_p35 dev-java/java-config: 2.1.9-r2 dev-lang/python: 2.6.4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.1.0_beta1 dev-util/ccache: 2.4-r7 dev-util/cmake: 2.6.4-r3 sys-apps/baselayout: 2.0.1 sys-apps/openrc: 0.6.0 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.6-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63-r1 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.1 sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.6b virtual/os-headers: 2.6.27-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=core2 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/php/apache2-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cgi-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cli-php5/ext-active/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/language.dat.d /etc/texmf/language.def.d /etc/texmf/updmap.d /etc/texmf/web2c /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=core2 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="ccache collision-protect distlocks fixpackages parallel-fetch protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.tiscali.nl/" LANG="en_US.UTF-8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed" LINGUAS="en en_US de ja es fr it" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS="--timeout=300" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage/layman/sunrise /usr/local/portage/tom-overlay /home/tom/gentoo/sci /home/tom/gentoo/sage-on-gentoo" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X a52 aac acl acpi alsa anthy apache2 avahi bash-completion berkdb bluetooth branding bzip2 cairo cddb cdparanoia cdr cjk cli consolekit cracklib crypt ctype cups curl cxx daap dbus djvu dri dts dvd dvdr eds emacs encode evo expat fam fbcon ffmpeg firefox flac fortran ftp gd gdbm gif gimp glut gmp gnutls gpm graphviz gstreamer gtk guile hal hdaps iconv ieee1394 imagemagick imap imlib ipod ipv6 java javascript jpeg kde latex ldap leim libnotify lm_sensors m17n-lib mad migemo mikmod mime mmx mng modules mp3 mp4 mpeg mplayer mudflap mule musicbrainz mysql mysqli ncurses nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin obex ocaml ogg oggvorbis openal opengl openmp pam pcmcia pcre pdf perl php plasma plotutils png policykit ppds pppd python qt3support qt4 quicktime readline reflection samba sasl sdl semantic-desktop session slang spell spl sqlite3 sse ssl startup-notification svg sysfs tcpd texlive theora threads thunar tiff tk truetype uim unicode usb v4l v4l2 visualization vorbis wicd wifi win32codecs wxwindows x264 x86 xcb xcomposite xft xine xinerama xml xorg xulrunner xv xvid zeroconf zlib zsh-completion" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1 emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic auth_digest authn_anon authn_dbd authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock dbd deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers ident imagemap include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation proxy proxy_ajp proxy_balancer proxy_connect proxy_http rewrite setenvif so speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="en en_US de ja es fr it" RUBY_TARGETS="ruby18" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="intel" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS
